This is one of many personal stories about abortion that was collected by the SHHH project group and its collaborators in the timeperiode from 2020 to 2021. The persons' own choice of words and expressions have been respected as far as possible. More about the SHHH project below.

I was scared, but I carried on through the painful experience with my eyes closed.

As a 20-year-old I have had two abortions. I could not let my parents know that I was pregnant.

My first abortion was when I was 16 years old. The abortion was not documented and I paid cash.

The procedure was done by the doctor who owned the hospital. My cousin was there to help me. I was awake throughout the procedure. I remember a long clamp-like instrument. I remember scissors and surgical knives. I was scared, but I carried on through the painful experience with my eyes closed.

I would have rather died than to come home with it. My parents would have killed me. I went home after the procedure and bled for about a week, with clots of blood coming out.

I would have rather died than to come home with it.
